Right Products & Packaging

We are committed to integrating circular principles and sustainable practices throughout everything we do, and in every single product, from design to manufacturing, to distribution and beyond. Here are our specific aims to help us achieve this and how we’re doing so far:

Integrating sustainable design

Working with our global colleagues at GN Group, we are committed to integrating sustainable design considerations throughout our product design, manufacture and distribution processes. We define 6 key dimensions including: use of sustainable materials, repairability, energy efficiency, sustainable and reduced packaging, recycling and refurbishing and sustainable production and distribution. All of our efforts are based on the data generated from our detailed product Lifecycle Assessments to ensure we’re able to reduce the carbon impacts of our products as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Using more sustainable materials

We have committed to ensuring that by 2025, all new products that come onto the market will be made with at least 50% sustainable materials. This means at least 50% of the product weight will be made from either recycled or bio-based content where these can serve as alternatives to plastics, metals or non-sustainable fabrics.

We are also committed to using materials and processes which aren’t harmful to people or the environment. All of our products use water-based paints and all packaging printing is done with plant-based inks which help minimize the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can be toxic to human health and the environment.

By 2025 all new products will have FSC certified* packaging that is recyclable. The inner structure of our product packaging is already made from 100% recycled paper.

*We are working towards our products becoming ‘FSC MIX’ certified. Products that bear this label are made using a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC controlled wood. While controlled wood is not from FSC certified forests, it mitigates the risk of the material originating from unacceptable sources.

Reducing plastic

We aim to eliminate single-use plastics in all our packaging by 2025 and we’re making good progress towards this as we introduce new products. We have significantly cut down the plastic used in the packaging of our most recent Headset and Mice ranges. For instance, our Arctis Nova Pro wireless headset packaging now contains 0% plastic, and our Rival 3 Mouse packaging now contains just 6% plastic (a reduction of 35% versus our earlier Rival 110 edition).

Reducing landfill

We want to eliminate our products going to landfill at the end of their life by making as much of the materials we use recyclable or reusable. We provide information online to our customers on where they can take all their electronics, not just SteelSeries products, to be processed properly after use. We’re also working on making this information available in pack.

Ensuring a sustainable supply chain

We are committed to upholding the highest standards of human rights and ensuring the well-being of our people working throughout our supply chain. Our codes of conduct commit all SteelSeries suppliers to follow international standards on child labor, forced labor, discrimination, anti-corruption, and bribery. From the end of 2022, key SteelSeries suppliers will also be subject to full audits by the GN Audio operations team (a Group company) to ensure they’re meeting these standards.

Most of our large retail and e-tail partners also have their own strict codes of conduct and require regular audits to check that the SteelSeries products they sell are manufactured in socially and environmentally responsible ways. We work to ensure we meet, and where possible exceed, all these standards.

As stipulated by GN Group’s Conflict Minerals Policy, we will not use minerals in our products that originate from mines controlled by military groups in conflict regions, known as conflict minerals. To find out more about this policy and how we ensure it is adhered to, you can find it under our ‘Responsibility policies’:
